Vancouver Island artist, CG Swanson, enjoys telling people that she worked as a magician’s assistant and as a cameraman in her youth. This intriguing juxtaposition of misdirecting an audience with that of curating their view, led her early artistic endeavors to include visual, performance, and literary art. Stemming from traumatic experiences, these works focused on evoking empathy and understanding of uncomfortable subjects. In the wake of her father’s suicide, and while providing respite care for a family in difficult circumstances, in the 2000s, CG moved toward oil painting to reveal beauty in darkness. In 2017, CG discovered wire art, pairing her love of trees with her passion for understanding the impact experiences and environment have on an individual’s growth and personality. Since then, she has exhibited her wire tree sculptures in one solo show, over 10 group shows and displays her sculptures in BC at Gallery 8, Coast Gallery, and Sonora Resort.
